This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the Baby Names: Meaning & Analysis app for iPhone and iPad (the “App”) and this website (the “Site”), who processes it, and what choices you have. The App is developed and published by Sina Alparslan, an independent developer (“we”, “us”, “our”), who is the data controller for the processing described here.
The short version: there is no account and we never ask for your name, email, contacts or location. Your favorites, game scores and settings stay on your device. The App sends usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase, including which names you look at and what you search for, and shows banner ads from Google AdMob. The advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking.
1. What we do not collect
- Your name, email address, phone number, contacts or date of birth. The App has no sign-up and no account.
- Your precise location. The App does not request location permission.
- The photos in your library. A photo you choose for a share card is used on your device only and is never uploaded.
- Birth dates you enter in the AstroNames tab. They are used on your device to work out zodiac signs; only the resulting sign names are recorded in analytics.
- Payment details. The App has no purchases.
2. Information that stays on your device
- Favorites you save from the name list or the Discover cards.
- Game progress: best scores and your Namedle streak.
- Preferences: language, theme, gender filter and selected origins.
- Read-aloud audio: names and meanings are spoken by your device's built-in text-to-speech voices.
- Share cards: the images you create are drawn on your device. They leave it only when you share or save them.
Deleting the App deletes everything it stored on that device.
3. Usage analytics and diagnostics
To understand which features are used and to find and fix faults, the App uses these services provided by Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited:
- Firebase Analytics records events such as opening a screen or tab, opening a name, adding or removing a favorite, swiping a card, listening to a name, sharing a name (with the card style, size and the app you shared to), playing a game (with result, score and duration), changing the language, theme or filters, opening a horoscope, and answering the in-app satisfaction question. These events include the names involved and, for searches, the search text you entered and the name you typed in Name Analysis (shortened to 100 characters). The App also records whether you allowed tracking.
- Firebase Crashlytics records crash and error reports: what the App was doing, the device model, system version and free memory at the time.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring records technical timings such as how long the App and its screens take to load.
These services automatically process technical data including an app-instance identifier, an installation identifier, device model, operating system and app version, language, and country or region derived from your IP address. We do not combine this data with your name or contact details, and we do not have those. Please do not type personal information such as full names of real people into the search field if you do not want it recorded.
Google's handling of this data is described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy.
4. Advertising
The App shows banner ads provided by Google AdMob. To deliver, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud, AdMob and its advertising partners may process your IP address, device and system information, a general (non-precise) location derived from your IP address, ad interactions, and, only if you allow tracking, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA).
- App Tracking Transparency. The App asks for permission before accessing the advertising identifier. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, the identifier is not available to the App or to Google, and the ads you see are not based on your activity in other companies' apps and websites. You can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Europe. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google applies its EU User Consent Policy to ads in the App. Where consent for personalised advertising has not been given, Google serves non-personalised or limited ads.
How Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
5. Content loaded from other services
- Daily horoscopes are loaded from an external horoscope service (horoscope.deckaura.com) when you open a sign. The request contains only the zodiac sign. Like any web request, it reveals your IP address to that service.
- Wikipedia. When you expand the Wikipedia section of a name, the App loads the matching Wikipedia search page from the Wikimedia Foundation in an in-app browser view. Wikimedia receives your IP address and browser details under the Wikimedia Privacy Policy.
- Contact form. The Contact item opens this Site's Support page in Safari's in-app view; see section 8.
6. Photos
When you choose “Choose photo” in the share editor, iOS lets you pick a single image without giving the App access to the rest of your library. The image is used only to draw your card on your device.
When you choose “Save image”, the App asks for permission to add photos. This permission lets the App save the card to your library but not read it. You can change it in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.
7. Sharing and links
When you share a name, the App hands the card image and a short text with a link to the system share sheet. What happens next is governed by the app or service you share to. Nothing is shared unless you start it.
Name links (for example bebekisim.web.app/n/Elif/) open the name in the App if it is installed, or a page on this Site that shows the name and a link to the App Store. On iPhone and iPad that page may forward you to the App Store automatically.
8. This website and support requests
The Site is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting, which processes your IP address and browser details in server logs to deliver pages and protect the service. The Site sets no advertising or analytics cookies and loads no third-party scripts.
If you send a message through the Support page, the name, email address and message you enter are delivered to us by the form provider FormSubmit and are used only to answer you. Please do not include sensitive information. We keep support correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period afterwards.
9. Why we process data, and the legal bases
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis (where a basis is required) |
|---|---|---|
| Providing the App's features | On-device data; requests to the horoscope service and Wikipedia when you use those features | Performance of our contract with you (the Terms of Use) |
| Understanding use, fixing faults, keeping the App reliable | Analytics, crash and performance data | Our legitimate interests in maintaining and improving the App |
| Showing and measuring ads | Advertising data | Your consent for personalised ads and for access to the advertising identifier; our legitimate interests for non-personalised ads, frequency limits and fraud prevention, where permitted |
| Answering support requests | Your message and contact details | Our legitimate interests in supporting users; steps taken at your request |
| Complying with law and enforcing our terms | As required | Legal obligation; legitimate interests |
Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect processing that already took place.
10. Who receives data
We do not sell your personal information for money. Data is processed by these providers, each under its own terms:
- Google (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, AdMob, Firebase Hosting) — analytics, diagnostics, advertising and hosting.
- Apple (App Store, system text-to-speech, photo picker, share sheet, ratings) — distribution and on-device features.
- The horoscope service and the Wikimedia Foundation — content you open in the App, as described in section 5.
- FormSubmit — delivery of support form messages.
- Advertising partners of Google AdMob — ad delivery and measurement, subject to your choices above.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a transfer of the App to a new owner, who would remain bound by this policy.
11. International transfers
The providers above operate globally, so data may be processed in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–U.S., UK and Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, or other mechanisms recognised by applicable law.
12. How long data is kept
- On-device data stays until you remove it in the App or delete the App.
- Analytics data is retained by Firebase for up to 14 months, after which event-level data is deleted automatically.
- Crash reports are retained by Crashlytics for 90 days.
- Advertising data is retained by Google and its partners under their own policies.
13. Your choices
- Tracking: decline the prompt, or turn it off later in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Ad personalisation: manage it at adssettings.google.com.
- Search text: avoid typing information you do not want recorded into the search and Name Analysis fields.
- Photos: change or remove the App's permission to add photos in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.
- Stop all collection: delete the App.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to be informed about, access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to receive it in a portable form, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data-protection authority. To exercise a right, contact us through the Support page.
Because the App has no account and we do not hold your name or email, we usually cannot link analytics or advertising data to a particular person. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
You have the rights set out in the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the Swiss FADP, including the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
United States (California and other states)
In the last 12 months the App has processed these categories of personal information: identifiers (device and installation identifiers, IP address), internet or other electronic activity (interaction with the App, search text and interaction with ads), and approximate geolocation derived from IP address. They are collected for the purposes described in section 9. We do not sell personal information for money and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. Allowing tracking for advertising may be a “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; you can opt out at any time by declining or turning off tracking as described in section 13. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information. You may have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf.
Türkiye
Under Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK) you have the rights listed in Article 11, including to learn whether your data is processed, to request information, correction or deletion, and to object. Data may be transferred abroad to the providers named in section 10 on the bases permitted by the law.
Brazil
Under the LGPD you have the rights in Article 18, including confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymisation, deletion, portability and information about sharing.
Other regions
You may have rights to access and correct your personal information and to complain to your privacy regulator. We will respond to requests as required by the law that applies to you.
15. Children
The App is made for parents and other adults choosing a name, and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the age at which consent is required in your country (up to 16 in parts of Europe). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
16. Security
Data on your device is protected by the security features of your device and operating system. Data sent to our providers is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will give notice in the App or on this Site. Continuing to use the App after a change takes effect means the updated policy applies.
18. Contact
