Frequently asked questions

Short, direct answers about what Baby Names does, what it costs and how it treats your data.

What is Baby Names: Meaning & Analysis?

It is a free baby name app for iPhone and iPad. It lists more than 5,400 names with their meaning, origin, gender, numerology number and matching zodiac signs, lets you swipe through names and save favorites, and includes name games and a daily name puzzle. It is made by an independent developer, Sina Alparslan.

Is the app free?

Yes. The app is free to download and use, with no subscription or in-app purchase. It shows banner ads from Google AdMob.

Which names are in the app?

More than 5,400 boy, girl and unisex names. Most are Turkish names; there are also names of Arabic, Persian, Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Albanian and other origins. Every name has a meaning in both English and Turkish.

How is a name's numerology number calculated?

Each letter is given a number, the numbers are added up and reduced to a single digit. The app shows this number for every name and for any name you type in Name Analysis. Numerology is a tradition, not a science; treat it as a fun extra rather than a reason to choose a name.

How do zodiac matches work?

Each name lists the zodiac signs it is traditionally said to suit. In the AstroNames tab you can pick a birth date or a range of dates, and the app suggests names that match the signs and numerology of those days.

Can I hear how a name is pronounced?

Yes. Tap the speaker button on a name to hear it and its meaning read aloud by your device's built-in voices.

What is Namedle?

A daily word puzzle with names: guess the five-letter name of the day in six tries. Letters turn green when they are in the right place and yellow when they are in the name but elsewhere. A new name appears every day.

How do I share a name?

Tap Share on a name or on a Discover card. Pick a card style (name and meaning, name only, details, or photo) and a size (square, story or landscape), then share the image with its link, copy the link, or save the image to Photos. People who open the link see the name in the app if they have it, or on this site if they don't.

Does the app work offline?

Yes, browsing names, favorites, name analysis and games work without an internet connection. Daily horoscopes, Wikipedia articles and ads need a connection.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Favorites, game scores and settings are stored on your device and are removed if you delete the app.

Is my data private?

The app has no account and does not ask for your name, email, contacts or location. It sends usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase to improve the app, including the names you search for, and shows ads from Google AdMob, which uses the advertising identifier only if you allow tracking. The Privacy Policy explains this in detail.

Which languages does the app support?

English and Turkish. You can switch the language inside the app; names, meanings and the interface change together.

Which devices does the app need?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 or later.

A meaning is wrong or a name is missing. What can I do?

Tell us through the Support page or the Contact item in the app's menu. Corrections and name suggestions are welcome.
